![]() ![]() I have to admit, they seem to price the not-super high-end or super-desirable factory stuff at really reasonable prices. ![]() I found a Boker 2000 on there for about half what I normally see people wanting from them. Good way to pass a little time, and what better subject to do that with than knives! Enjoy! Although, every now and then you can spot something you've always wanted, and, the price can be reasonable. The knives themselves are mostly very nice pieces, but because ACK needs to make a profit, they have to mark them up from what the consignment seller wants, so they get quite expensive. In the emails there is a link at the bottom of the page to take you directly to the "Recently Added" knives, and if you use it you don't need to search the entire store every time you visit. Some really beautiful knives go through that store, and I enjoy scrolling through them each day. You're most welcome John! At ACK you can sign-up for email notifications when knives from a particular maker come into their store, and I made sure I signed-up for quite a few makers so I can get regular emails from them, and don't need to remember to check out the site each day. Thanks for the link to the Arizona Custom Knives store, Mark. I can't see myself paying that kind of money just to say I have a Strider, there's waaaaaaaay more knives on my bucket list, and most are cheaper. The reviewer also said Strider's knives were the priciest and hardest to find. I had no idea who Mick Strider was but found it interesting that he would be included with Reeve and Hinderer. One of the YouTube knife reviewers claimed Chris Reeve, Rick Hinderer and Mick Strider were the "Big Three" as far as modern Tactical folders go. Just my humble opinion folks and your mileage may vary. Playing devil's advocate here for a moment:If you apply the logic of not buying one of his knives based on his past (mis)deeds then I guess you could say you will never buy a knife made in Japan or Germany because of what they did during World War 2 or the same reasoning for not buying any knife made in the People's Republic of China.Where do you draw the line? I could keep rambling but to me it would be pointless. As was stated above: TO EACH THEIR OWN! I too didn't read all 82 pages of the thread on Blade Forums and I doubt that I ever will bother to do so.I don't know Mick Strider(who picks a name like that anyway?)and probably wouldn't want to.Haven't seen any of his knives but the general consensus seems to be that they are good quality knives. To each their own, if they decide to buy, or not buy.or even support Strider Knives. I believe a person can change and become a viable asset to society.įurthermore.I have no doubt that Strider makes a GREAT knife, for it's very obvious his knives are selling very well. I don't know Strider's heart or mindset today, so I will not judge him harshly, as the BF forum thread does about his past. If it's not true, then he shouldn't use his military status of 11 months as a valid merchandising premise and seemingly 'make up stuff' to enhance his credentials. ![]() With that said the only thing that bothers me about Strider is.that he used his military background as a foundation for validating the making and selling of his knives. However, this all happened over 20 years ago and longer. All this alleged bad history of Strider (aka: Mickey Ray Burger) appears to be plausible and viable information. I didn't read all 82 pages of the thread at Bladeforums.just the first page alone provides enough information to draw from. Just yesterday, my brother and I were discussing Strider Knives and Strider's past history and how many are calling him out, and just as many are defending his status. Interesting timing regarding Strider and this thread. And your assessment that a Strider collector discovered said info, and after reading it sold his whole Strider collection now makes more sense than ever! Mark! I was completely unaware of the entire situation, so thanks again for pointing me in the right direction, I found the info quite interesting. The general opinion was that the knives themselves are quality pieces, but not so much regarding the builder's character. Everything I read was backed-up with documented proof, but as you said, each must make up their own mind as to it's validity. I did the search Rick, and it certainly produced some disturbing information regarding Mick Strider. I don’t recall reading any bad information about the knives themselves but I haven’t done any extensive research. One would have to form their own personal opinion but there’s no denying that the information is disturbing. Try doing a search for "Mick Strider Stolen Valor". ![]()

![]() So, although this technology is not new, in a major metropolitan city like New York, nearly one-third of homes do not have a broadband internet connection. It would take a decade to get anywhere near a return on investment. The cost of fiber optic cable itself is just a few dollars per foot, but when you consider the upfront costs of right-of-way fees, permits, and the nearly impossible labor of digging up enough residential street to extend fiber to unconnected homes, even large ISPs aren’t willing to do it. Even if you sorted all of that with relative ease, you would then be faced with the immense task of having to clear an entire city block of cars out of the way (this doesn’t even work with street cleaning tickets), and don’t get me started on historic cobblestone roads. You can’t simply tear up a city street without first dealing with permits and existing infrastructure (beyond the Subway, there is a labyrinth of infrastructure under our feet). There are, of course, more obstacles to digging holes than just capital. This is because it’s simply too costly to dig the hole required to extend that fiber optic cable. ![]() Across the 5 boroughs there are endless examples of residential buildings that do not have fiber internet connections, despite the fact that their neighbor across the street does. It sounds absurd to the uninitiated, but it’s true. Unfortunately, so many of our modern day problems remain unsolved because of the cost of digging holes. Step one: to dig or not to dig, that is the multi-million dollar question The good news is, through creative problem solving, strategic partnerships, and diverse funding options, an open access playbook is both achievable and replicable. They say if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere, and it certainly holds true for closing the digital divide. They may not be evenly distributed throughout the boroughs, however, there is a larger diversity of available ISPs than in most places.Ībove all, New York is frankly a complicated case. New York also has a larger number of local ISPs. As mentioned before, a lot of the groundwork has already been laid through the former Internet Master Plan (in fact, it continues to inspire other cities like Los Angeles and Cleveland that have put out copycat future RFP notices). New York is uniquely positioned to serve as the exemplar for several reasons. In doing so, New York could serve as an example to the rest of the nation on how to best (and more efficiently) close the digital divide. ![]() Instead, local startups in the form of ISPs and proptech companies should band together with real estate developers to create an open access playbook. This program is a step in the wrong direction, but so is waiting for any government entity - city, state, federal or otherwise - to solve the problem. ![]() ![]() That plan, however, was scrapped under Mayor Eric Adams, whose Big Apple Connect program directs residents to ISP incumbents Optimum and Spectrum for connection. While imperfect, it was admirably ambitious and highlighted the need to bring smaller, locally-owned ISPs into the ring, allowing for more competition and fairer prices. Well before FCC broadband maps were updated and BEAD planning funding was deployed, even before the pandemic sent us all online, New York City had its own plan for closing the digital divide in the Big Apple. ![]() ![]() It would be poignant if songwriting (something Layla relates back to her mother), eventually becomes a part of her journey to recovery. Her performance continues to be so raw, it’s difficult to watch at times. All American does a fabulous job at reminding the audience of this, with Greta Onieogou at the helm. Just as POC or the LGBTQIA community, people who struggle with mental health issues want to see themselves reflected on screen. As Layla says herself in “They Reminisce Over You,” mental illness is not a “version” of you–it is you. Representing mental illness in media is not imperative just for the mere sake of breaching the topic it’s not an item meant to be checked off a list. Even after the healing begins, the road to recovery is long and complex. It’s an ongoing series of mountains and valleys. Problem is, depression doesn’t appear in an instant, or “fix” itself immediately. Too often, a series will use mental health as a plot device, wrapping things up before ever dealing with the issues. It gives proper time to breathe and resonate. Instead, the lingering way her truth is brought to light adds a realness to its portrayal. Bringing her arc to a climax only to abruptly move on would be a disservice to the story itself. ![]() ![]() Layla as a subplot isn’t a detriment to the episode–it’s actually a relief. Scientists were also concerned about potential stratospheric impacts of the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai volcano eruption on January 15, 2022, but so far, no direct impacts on the ozone layer have been noted in the data. Amendments have helped it evolve over time to meet new scientific, technical and economic developments and challenges. It remains the only international treaty ratified by every country on Earth. This is due to the Montreal Protocol, a treaty adopted 35 years ago offsite link to ban the release of harmful ozone-depleting chemicals called chlorofluorocarbons, or CFCs. Measurements made via satellite and ozonesondes show that the Antarctic ozone hole has been smaller in recent years than it was in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Over Antarctica, the depleted ozone layer is roughly equivalent to the thickness of a dime. In many places, the global average is about 300 Dobson Units, which if brought down to sea level pressure, is about as thick as two stacked pennies. ![]() The ozone layer provides powerful protection against the sun’s ultraviolet rays, but is startlingly thin relative to the Earth’s crust and ocean, or even its total overhead atmosphere. At altitudes between 8 and 13 miles above Earth’s surface (14 to 21 kilometers), the ozone was almost completely depleted during the ozone hole’s maximum. This is very similar to last year’s measurements. The lowest column amount detected by ozonesondes at the South Pole this year was 101 Dobson Units on October 3, according to Bryan Johnson from NOAA’s Global Monitoring Laboratory. NOAA scientists at the South Pole Station also record the ozone layer's thickness by releasing weather balloons carrying ozone-measuring instruments called ozonesondes that measure the varying ozone concentrations, measured in Dobson Units, as the balloon rises into the stratosphere. This year, satellite observations determined the ozone hole area reached a single-day maximum of 10.2 million square miles (26.4 million square kilometers) on October 5, but is now shrinking. NOAA and NASA researchers detect and measure the growth and breakup of the ozone hole with satellite instruments aboard Aura, Suomi-NPP and NOAA-20 satellites. The chemical reactions then begin to deplete the ozone layer as the sun rises at the end of the winter in the Southern Hemisphere, with the strongest depletion occurring above Antarctica. Chlorine and bromine derived from human-produced compounds are released from reactions on high-altitude polar clouds. The ozone hole happens when the protective ozone layer in the stratosphere above the South Pole begins to thin every September. Eliminating ozone-depleting substances through the Montreal Protocol is shrinking the hole.” But overall, we see it decreasing through the last two decades. “We see some wavering as weather changes and other factors make the numbers wiggle slightly from day to day and week to week. ![]() “Over time, steady progress is being made and the hole is getting smaller,” said Paul Newman, chief scientist for Earth Sciences at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Reading Comprehension Section is made up of 30 questions that deal with.
